Strategic Network Design Foundations (Part 1): Certified Professional Training

Course Introduction

The **Certified Network Infrastructure Design Professional (CNIDP) – Part 1** is designed to elevate the knowledge and skills of professionals involved in network design within the project delivery life cycle. This foundation-level training provides a comprehensive understanding of the tendering process—from responding to Requests for Quotation (RFQ) or Invitation to Tender (ITT) through to tender award.

Participants will gain in-depth insights into design principles, standards, site surveys, and architectural considerations while also developing the ability to produce accurate, detailed submittals for client project teams. Learners completing this programme will receive an **attendance certificate, validating their achievement and commitment to professional development.

Program Objectives

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

* Understand and apply core **network infrastructure design principles**.
* Assess requirements, gather critical information, and address project constraints.
* Apply international **standards and best practices** in cabling, installation, and network applications.
* Conduct comprehensive **site surveys** for both greenfield and brownfield projects.
* Design cabling subsystems, including **ISP and OSP infrastructures**.
* Develop and evaluate network architectures covering **Ethernet, VoIP, CCTV, wireless, and access control systems**.
* Plan effective **pathways, containment, fire stopping, bonding, and earthing systems**.
* Understand **testing and commissioning processes** to ensure compliance and quality.

Five-Day Course Outline

Day 1: Foundations of Network Design

* Introduction to CNIDP Framework
* Understanding project delivery life cycles
* **Design Principles**: requirements, information gathering, CDMQ, constraints, capacity planning
* Introduction to **standards organisations** and cabling/installation standards

Day 2: Standards and Working Environments

* Electrical, network, and application standards
* **Building Information Modelling (BIM)** in network infrastructure
* Spaces and working areas: BEF, MER, BD, FD, horizontal/work area distribution
* Practical workshop: Mapping spaces and functional areas

Day 3: Site Surveys and Cabling Sub-systems

* **Site survey process**: methodology, tools, and reporting
* Greenfield vs. brownfield considerations
* Cabling sub-systems: OSP, backbone, horizontal, and network cabling
* Case study: Designing effective survey reports

Day 4: Network Architecture and Pathways

* Network architecture: Ethernet, VoIP, CCTV, wireless, access control, fire alarms, and environmental management
* **Pathways & containment**: raised access floors, confined spaces, and OSP cable duct systems
* Workshop: Designing containment systems for efficiency and compliance

Day 5: Fire Stopping, Bonding, and Commissioning

* **Fire stopping systems**: types, specifications, regulations, and testing
* Bonding and earthing: protective earth, equipotential bonding, UPS integration
* Test & commission specifications: certification test methods, compliance with testing standards
* Final review and assessment
* Award of **Attendance Certificate**

Training Methodology

This programme uses a **practical, hands-on approach** to ensure participants gain both theoretical understanding and applied skills. Training methods include:

* Interactive lectures and case studies
* Practical design exercises and workshops
* Real-world project simulations
* Group discussions and peer learning
* Instructor-led demonstrations

Who Should Attend

This programme is designed for professionals who are, or aspire to be, actively involved in **network design and infrastructure projects**, including:

* Network Infrastructure Designers and Engineers
* IT and Telecom Project Managers
* Cabling and Systems Integration Specialists
* Consultants and Contractors involved in ISP/OSP design
* Professionals preparing for CNIDP certification
