Introduction

* Roles and responsibilities of Crisis Managers
* Stakeholder involvement: internal and external perspectives
* *Five Deadly Leadership Behaviours* and *Six Winning Strategies*
* The dangers of denial-curve and group-think syndromes

Day Two – Pre-Planning & Mitigation Strategies

* Case studies: why some companies fail while others survive
* Ownership of the mitigation process
* Developing and implementing Emergency Plans
* Establishing Crisis Management and Communications Centres
* Designing and applying Business Continuity Management (BCM) strategies
* Business Impact Analysis workshop

Day Three – Leading Crisis Communications

* Command and Control: operational, tactical, and strategic levels
* On-scene leadership and essential elements of success
* Reputation management and handling the media effectively
* Organising press conferences with confidence
* TV interview skills: step-by-step guidance
* Case critique: BP press conferences – lessons learned
* Practical exercise: Crisis Communications Strategy

Day Four – Incident Leadership & Human Impact

* Alerting and warning systems – what works and what fails
* Corporate case studies: BP Texas (2005), BP Alaska (2006), BP Gulf of Mexico (2010)
* Major Incident Simulation: immersive role-play workshop
* Managing psychological and welfare challenges in crisis leadership
* Building and sustaining morale and confidence during crises
* Organisational resilience check: “Are your batteries in good condition?”

Day Five – Post-Crisis Leadership Actions

* Designing and conducting effective exercises to validate plans and procedures
* Maximising learning from crisis simulations
* Post-incident evaluations and professional debriefing techniques (hot & cold)
* Writing executive summaries and actionable recommendations
* Closing the loop: implementing improvements and sustaining preparedness
* Case Studies: three disasters with the same cause – lessons still unlearned
